YourBrowEstie Rebrand

Brief

YourBrowEstie is a licensed cosmetics business based in Panama City, Florida, in which they specialize in eyebrow services such as waxing, tinting and lamination.Following the 1-year anniversary of establishing their business, they saw fit to give it a much needed rebrand and came to me for a solution. For this rebrand, they were seeking a much more consistent brand across the board, making a more approachable first impression. the settled goal was a modernized gothic style, one that's heavily reflective of the client's personality.

Project

Final logo and comparison.

The early stages of shape language and logo sketches

The construction of the logotype, established color palette, marble pattern, and several colored logo iterations

Above are some examples of the branding put to use in some social media/physical promotional graphics across different formatting, using an altered version of the base palette for specific occasions. Some experimentation was done for the masses, but at it's core, it remained consistent throughout each composition.

The Dissection

Brief

I wanted to do a piece for Halloween since I saw it as a goal, an opportunity, to do something I don't often do... a FULL composition! This was mainly to practice rendering of certain things here... semi-transparent goop/curtains, lighting and set-dressing. I also wanted to dabble my hand in some monster design, shooting for that "uncanny valley" feeling on its face. The setting and thematic of this piece was primarily and heavily inspired by "The Subject" segment off of V/H/S/94, an entry to my most favorite guilty pleasure, found-footage horror movie franchise of all time.

Project

Several thumbnails which helps to initiate quick chicken scratches I call "brain dumping". In this case, a picture is worth a thousand thumbnails.

Some color and lighting studies to determine the best feel for this composition.

I can usually do with the initial sketch, but if I either have more time or want to improve on a particular element that just wasn't working, then I do a second sketch pass. It's time to move on to the final art at this point!

The final artwork!

I've made an entire timelapse for this project. Check it out! Please do like, subscribe, and hit the bell if you like it and want to view future uploads.HUGE thanks to my friend, Chandler, for providing the track for this project! He makes fantastic music, give 'em a listen and perhaps a follow!

Pokémon Trading Card Game Illustration Contest 2022

Brief

Back in January of 2022, I had entered the Pokémon Trading Card Game Illustration Contest. And on the 9th of June, they finally announced the winners. I couldn't share my work within that time frame, unfortunately. I didn't make the cut, but that's ok! I still benefited by learning a thing or two.Now the contest only allowed 3 pieces to be submitted maximum but I chose to do 2. I went through their list of preferred Pokémon with accompanying references, and in the end, I chose to create one with Bulbasaur, one with Cramorant.More here!

Project

Thumbnails of 4 different Pokémon I best wanted to do a composition from the aforementioned list. The contest allowed me to create what would or could be everyday situations for them.

Along with the help of my friends' input, I went ahead and chose Bulbasaur and Cramorant. I wish I did one for Charizard as a 3rd entry, but sadly, restrained time didn't allow me to.I then expanded upon the chosen thumbnails and refined them further.

Ready-for-submission.

Hidden Stylus Rebrand 2024

Brief

Ever since I’ve began this thingy back in 2017, as a part of my Graphic Design side of things, I’ve always provided vector logos and branding solutions for all of my clients. But not once have I ever considered my own branding, not giving it any real thought. As of recent, I've just grew tired of my previous logo and It motivated me to go back to the drawing board.

Project

The logo when it all began… and it was actually the Hirosh font by Jonathan Smith, modified and made in raster (Yup, rookie mistake!) This one didn't last too long. OGs, stand up!

The latest entry before the storm… Used this one, switched over to the third logo, and then reverted back when I didn't feel it anymore.

Technically the third logo… uhhhh I don't even know why I did the logo like this to be honest haha, probably looked cool to me then.

But now, I wanted to go futher this time, beyond the logo. I made 2 checklists of what I wanted this time around

Logo:

  • Logo (and variants for use in other scenarios)

  • Color palette

  • Design language

  • Pattern

  • Social media branding (profile pictures, banners, etc.)

  • Intro/outro for video platforms

  • Website revamp

Branding:

  • Something that isn’t too complex for memorability and scalability

  • Must be unique and clever

  • Has to be capable of much more to contribute to my overall branding language other than just being the frontliner

I typically do a "brain dump" of several different iterations of what I generally want to do. In this case, I went anywhere from incorporating my previous logo in revamped styles, experimenting with abstract marks, and completely new concepts. I periodically annotated some of them with my thoughts in hindsight, my own weird way of keeping myself on track, haha. While design language wasn't really in my radar in this stage, you'll notice that a certain concept here was repurposed as such! After a few months, exhausting a ton of ideas, I went to take a couple concepts I liked best and went into refinement mode. The idea was to take said favorite concepts and “branch” off of it, making iterations that are more like the base.I slept on the refined sketches, multiple times to be certain, and I ended up really liking the “stylus crossed through the eye” concept, a stylized take inspired by the common “hidden” icon found in UIs. While I would've liked to go with a couple other concepts, what stopped me was the lack of a clear stylus shape at smaller scales (they would just look like straight lines), which is why I decided to create the stylus with higher perspective in a concept that worked for me.

Now with the base logo vectorized, I then proceeded to tackle the rest of the main branding! The design language and patterns are based on an analog theme that stemmed from the logo's eye.

Inspiration:

  • CRT TVs, ones I grew up playing PS2, N64, GameCube, Wii on as well as watching a select few movies (Ratatouille, Coraline, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Harry Potter) on repeat as a kid. Something about old fashion TV sets with their bloated-style frames are just so charming!

  • Dot grid paper, my most practically/aesthetically favorite format for ideas. It's also conveniently a representation of the white noise that appears on TVs.

  • Analog sine waves, thought it'd compliment the CRT aspect of things. They looked fun and aesthetically pleasing! (And I wanted a transitional element).

Updated social media branding, Incorporating the newly established design language.

Intro storyboarding and final render! On the left is the original draft of the storyboard, done while I was in the logo's rough sketch iteration stage, since I didn't want to lose a potential concept that popped into my head. And on the right is the final draft, done after the branding was finalized.
